Detonators & Accessories
Blast initiating devices are units that provide a stimulus to reliably set-off the explosive loaded in a borehole or on the surface. These units also help in carrying out blasting of boreholes in a predetermined, sequence, which is a prerequisite for good fragmentation, muck pile looseness, reduced ground vibrations, air blast noise and toe formation. The initiation system should also not cause any disruption or desensitization of the explosive column, but enable it to generate its energy fully.
Blast initiation systems can be broadly classified into three groups. They are
  • Electric Initiation systems
  • Non-electric Initiation systems
  • Electronic Detonators

From field application considerations, initiation systems can be further divided into
  • Surface initiation units (instantaneous/delays)
  • In-hole initiation units (instantaneous/delays)

Combination delay systems comprising of both electric/non-electric and in-hole/surface blast initiating devices are popular today, as they help in achieving multiplicity of delay intervals which helps the blasting engineer to carry out blasting of infinite number of drill holes sequentially and yet keeping ground vibrations at a minimum level.

Detonators
Detonators are devices that impart the necessary shock or stimulus to the explosive. Detonators comprise of a metal shell (aluminum, copper or steel) closed at one end. They contain a base charge of high explosive called Penta Erythritol Tetra Nitrate (PETN) and a initiating / priming charge of a mixture of Lead Azide, Lead Styphnate and Aluminum powder known as ASA mixture. While base charge is sensitive to a higher order shock wave, the priming charge is sensitive to a flame/fire. Upon initiation, the priming compound reacts rapidly and generates the desired shock to set off the base charge and thus the detonator.

Products for Seismic Prospecting
Seismic Electric Detonators are specially designed to meet the stringent requirements of seismic prospecting work. The unique features of these detonators are that they have extremely low reaction times and they fire within 1 millisecond after the passage of requisite electrical energy.

Raydet
It is under this brand name we manufacture the full range of shock tube based non-electric delay detonators. It consists of a hollow polymer tube of desired length containing a very small quantity of reactive material in its annular space, approximately 15-20 milligrams per meter.

Detonating fuse (also known as Detonating Cord) is an initiating device, which contains a core of PETN all along its length. The explosive core is encapsulated in a polymer tape and further countered with polymeric yarns. This semi-fuse is over-extruded with PVC, which gives the cord abrasion resistance and water proof qualities.

Pentolite Booster

Cord Relay & Cord Relay-MS
These are the non-electric detonating relays which are being manufactured by IDL Explosives. They are used in conjunction with detonating cord trunklines in opencast metal and coal mines, quarrying, civil construction and in underground metal mines' various types of stoping operations.

e-DET (Electronic Detonator)
It is an accurate and simple to use delay detonator. With factory programmed delay numbers and field programmed delay intervals, e-DETs are ideal for all surface and below-ground blasting operations. This is an indigenous developed electronic detonator which has been recently added to our product portfolio.
